Drone Wash of Church Steeple on Dauphin Island Parkway

Halo Wash completed a steeple cleaning project at Church of our Lourdes, located off Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, AL. The church steeple had not been washed in many years and showed obvious biological growth, so the congregation asked us to return it to a clean, cared for condition without risking the historic structure.

Access to the steeple was particularly difficult because it sits in the center of the building and rises above several steep rooflines. Traditional access methods would have required extensive rigging or rooftop work that could endanger the roof or the crew. To avoid those risks we used a drone to safely reach and inspect the steeple before beginning any cleaning work.

Using the drone allowed our team to closely evaluate the condition of the steeple and plan the cleaning approach without walking directly on steep roofs. Once we confirmed the areas affected by growth, we applied a targeted chemical treatment to kill and loosen the organic material. The treatment was applied with care to protect surrounding surfaces.

After the chemical treatment did its work, we rinsed the steeple to remove the dead growth and cleaner residue. The rinse restored the steeple’s appearance and removed the visible staining that had built up over the years. Throughout the process we focused on controlling runoff and protecting the building below, so gutters, stained glass, and roof material were not exposed to unnecessary stress.

We were able to perform the inspection and cleaning activities without placing workers on steep, unstable roof areas, and without risking damage to the steeple itself.
